The recent increase in my boredom lately has encouraged me to create a blog to which I will upload all the things that interest and influence me in my life and my work. It saves me printing out endless photos that will never be seen by anyone and get shoved in a draw somewhere. I'm hoping it will turn out to be something I can stick to for a change!

Bell-Jar
(noun)
A bell-shaped glass jar or cover for protecting delicate instruments, bric-a-brac, or the like, or for containing gases or vacuum in chemical experiments.

'The Bell Jar' written by Sylvia Plath, was a book lent to me recently by one of my best friends. I went into her room the other day and she had books all over the floor, when I asked her if she was reading them all at once she said yes and I was really quite baffled. I have trouble sticking to one thing at a time let alone 5! She is going to Oxford to study English though, so I suppose nothing she does should surprise me...She's definitely the brains in our relationship.
For some reason or other I feel that, by very loose connection, a bell jar has the same connotations as a blog. Although a blog may not be glass in form, in a sense, it can be used to contain information such as photos or text, that can later be referred to with the purpose of experimentation or inspiration.
The slight burst of sunshine we've been having has definitely enhanced my enthusiasm and creativity, I'm just constantly feeling the need to draw. I suppose I should not take this feeling for granted though, as it doesn't happen very often. I spent most of last night googling illustrators just so I could have a little burst of inspiration! So just to get started, here's a few illustrators that I stumbled across last night...

Martin O'Neill
One of my favourite UK based illustrators who fuses collage, photography, photocopies, paint and printing to create his unique graphic work.

Chris Dent
An artist and illustrator who I have drawn a lot of inspiration from in my recent projects due to the detail and strong use of line when depicting architecture and modern metropolis.

Betsy Walton
'Many of my paintings and drawings explore the tension and balance between the mysterious nature of our existence and the objects and environments we find in everyday life.' Her work combines geometric abstraction and Byzantine icon painting.
